Bloomberg hints at DSLR coffin being nailed

Just lucky. I thought I was paying a high price at that time and never imagined they would gain so much in value. The problem is, I feel under some pressure to keep them because I could probably never justify the cost of replacement. That's a good part of why I never replaced the Leica. My old equipment, M3 and 35, 50, and 90 Summicrons, and a Pentax Spotmatic with a bunch of glass, were stolen (around 1980), and with the insurance money I chose to replace the SLR side first, on the theory that they MIGHT have improved enough that I didn't need the Leica any more. Well, sort, of, they had; not as good in low light, but tolerable (with a Beattie Intenscreen). I would like AF more if it worked better. For classic portraiture with an 85mm f/1.4 used wide open, AF is an irritating waste of time. So I prefer manual focus and my D3 and Kodak DCS 14n both have KatzEye split image focusing screens. I'm still having problems with retinal bleeding in my dominant right eye but I am coping. I just need a little more patience. I found as early as 1994 that it works significantly better for me (that test was primarily with an 80-200/2.8 on an N90). I thought about a Katzeye for my D200 (and now for my D700, though I've gotten rid of two of my most interesting manual-focus lenses, the 58/1.2 NOCT and the 135/1.8 AIS), but the camera has to be away for too long I bought the screens mail order and had them fitted locally. I collected one from the technician only an hour and a half after leaving it. That makes it easier. I don't know anyplace locally anymore that does repair work, unfortunately. , and my eyes are even older than in 1994 (I actually started wearing reading glasses in 1999). You could fit an eyepiece correction lens. I guess I could consider a prescription eyepiece for the astigmatism. The diopter adjustment is plenty strong enough to get the spherical correction I need. |
