Histogram
I just purchased the Pentax *ist D (as some already know) and would like to
know if anyone has a reference (site, book, article) that can provide a tutorial or explanation on how this feature can best be used and understood? I'm sure the manufacturers didn't include this feature just for the heck of it and I can see it having some real value, but how do I interpret the histogram? Thanks, Bob S. |

Several people have referred you to a good site; I concur with that. In addition, you will learn a lot just by looking at the histograms of various real pictures, both good and bad. Your own, other peoples. Small web-resolution images are fine (not so fine if you start trying to edit them a lot; but just looking at the histogram in their original state lets you learn to associate "how the picture looks" with how the histogram looks). So make a point of looking at the histogram of every picture you open, even if you don't adjust it. -- David Dyer-Bennet, , http://www.dd-b.net/dd-b/ RKBA: http://noguns-nomoney.com/ http://www.dd-b.net/carry/ Pics: http://dd-b.lighthunters.net/ http://www.dd-b.net/dd-b/SnapshotAlbum/ Dragaera/Steven Brust: http://dragaera.info/ |

From: "ed" Google is your friend. If you Google 'histogram' you get 869,000 hits. Which of those 869,000 are good ones? That's why asking on a NG is sometimes a better idea, he got 2 or 3 sites that explain histograms well for digital camera users |

Ed,
Yes it is but I actually use Copernic Pro which is a meta search engine and it gave me thousands of hits. I thought asking here, of those that are knowledgeable about the subject, would lead to some correct information. Much of what turned up when I did a search was opinion and information from unknown sources. Not saying the information wasn't correct - just that I had no way of knowing if it was or not. I simply asked for someone to help sort the wheat out from the chaff. I also think that anyone that hangs around this newsgroup has the smarts to know enough to do a search first - then ask a question. Thanks for your suggestion though, Bob S. "ed" wrote in message ...
