Velvia 100 Pro (not 100F)
Since I have not seen anyone else post this tidbit from PMA...
http://www.fujifilm.com/JSP/fuji/epa...ge.jsp?DBID=NE WS_825274&CAT_ID=-1007 Velvia 100 has been on sale in Japan, but is just being introduced in the US. Fuji claims that this film will eventually replace Velvia 50, but that both products will be available through the rest of 2005. -- Julian Vrieslander |

Fujifilm UK claims Velvia 100 will be available from summer but doesn't say about Velvia going away. The question really is - to buy a stash of fresh Velvia and store it or wait and see if there isn't a big enough difference in colours? -- Sander +++ Out of cheese error +++ |

The question really is - to buy a stash of fresh Velvia and store it or wait and see if there isn't a big enough difference in colours? I haven't seen a discontinuation announcement for 50. For some reason I find 50 easier to use than 100F. The 100F seems contrastier (on the other hand I've only shot a few rolls, and one roll by accident believeing it was the less contrasty Sensia 100...). Anyone have a "side by side" link for 100F v. 100? If 50 is discontinued I will likely buy 40 rolls of classic for the freezer. At 4 - 6 rolls per year (for that film) it will be more than I'm likely to shoot. The 100F seems contrastier I've not done much V100F, but what I have done matches that experience. Unlike "proper" Velvia, it largely seems to behave like a harder-to-scan version of Provia 100F (because of the higher contrast). I look forward to trying Velvia 100 with interest. If it can give me Velvia 50-like results, but at a stop faster, it'll probably rapidly displace Provia 100F as my "default" film. |

From the link in my original post http://www.fujifilm.com/JSP/fuji/epa...ge.jsp?DBID=NE WS_825274&CAT_ID=-1007 "The new Fujichrome Velvia 100 is designed to replace the current Velvia 50 product line. Initial shipments of the new Velvia 100 are scheduled for late spring 2005. It is anticipated that Velvia 50 will be available for the balance of 2005. Fujifilm intends to make the transition from Velvia 50 to the new Velvia 100 as smooth as possible for professional photographers by having both Velvia products available simultaneously in 2005 to allow photographers time to test the new product." -- Julian Vrieslander |
