Default Canon 40D falls apart after delivery ?

Several people have had shutter err 99 problems with the 40D:

One after 1 week, one after 3 weeks, etc.
Seems I got rid of mine just in time ;-)

And we're sure you'll find some new camera to blame for your
incompetance.

It's a poor idiot who doesn't understand the difference between using a tool
and not being able to use a tool...

If your http://photos-of-portugal.com/Pinhal/ gallery is any
indication, I'd put you in the not-being-able-to-use-a-tool group.

Just show your better photos... or shut up.

A couple out of how many sold?
What are the odds that other brands/models have the same statitistics?

I'm always at a total loss as to why people get so brandcentric, they have
to slag off on other brands. For all intents and purposes, most cameras in
each range are much and much the same, else there'd be only one brand that
sold.

For what it is worth, I recently did a quick trip through Europe and the UK,
weather conditions ranged from cold to freezing snow and it rained the whole
time I was over there. However my 40D didn't falter. Does that mean I think
the 40D is the bee's knees...well I guess so, but then I'm not so closed
minded that I think that Canon is "the" only brand to buy.
I find it rather amusing to read the garbage some of you brand fanatics
write, such tiny closed minds that think a brand name makes you a better
photographer, is just too funny for words.

And you don't know how to use the tool. You can't even manage to avoid
getting caught in a lie when you post your "examples".

By the way, Consumer Reports says that Nikon shows s significantly
higher rate of repairs than does Canon.

Not very good. Consumer Reports shows Canon to be significantly more
reliable than Nikon.

Stupid tribalism.

Hmmm, so in your book, two or three problem cameras are sufficient
grounds to blacklist them all?

Try this thread; a 5D smoking a D300. The Nikonians won't like this ...
