Default Canon is HURTING!!!

Sony sells the innards to multiple camera manufacturers, they have reason to
be bullish.
Matsu****a presumably equals Nikon but no one seems to know for sure. Nikon
is one of Sony's best customers.
Canon has been endlessly repackaging old technology in new boxes with a new
model number. They are not the only vendor doing this but they are one of
the more flagrant using this type of marketing. Canon users eventually wise
up to this and become less enthusiastic about the upgrade cycle.
In any event, as the article indicates. digital photography has already
matured as a market and most consumers are satisfied with the quality of the
cameras they have. In a down economy most consumers do not prioritize
buying newer digital cameras.
Digital office equipment has long been a commoditized market driven by
service and price. Again in a down market it is more cost-effective to sit
out the upgrade cycle and this affects Canon and all manufacturers. The
falling dollar does not help any Asian manufacturer and the cost of
petroleum is making the 12,000 mile supply line from Asia to the US even
longer and harder to disguise.
Microsoft is feeling the double whammy of domestic and international
consumer/business resistance to Vista and reluctance to upgrade hardware and
software simply to run a new OS with no tangible productivity benefits.
Microsoft sees the end of the endless OS/Office upgrade cycles as a reliable
revenue stream-- because Vista and Office 2007 are badly designed products
that harm productivity because of pointless changes in the user
interface--and is the main reason they tried to buy Yahoo, which they may
get for less on the second try if Yahoo's stock price tanks like it should.

Your distances are a bit out there. Tokyo to LA is 5,494 miles, and
Tokyo to NYC is 6,715 miles. A bit short of your 12,000.
