Working with RAW
I am trying (fort the first time) to open a RAW file that I shot with my
D70. I'm using Photoshop7. When I "Open as" I get a dialog box that shows the following: Size: 5416900 bytes Channels: Count 1 Depth: 8 Bits or 16 Bits Header: Defaults to 0 When I click OK I get a gray image...no picture. I read the Adobe PS Help file but did not have any success. Can anyone help with what the settings should be to get an image? Many thanks in advance. Gordon |

Gordon, PS7 doesn't open *camera* raw files, the "raw" you see using "open as" is intended to open some otherwise unidentifiable files created by mainly obsolete software. To open camera raw files you need Elements 3 or 4, or Photoshop CS2. These use the "Adobe Camera Raw" (ACR) plug-in which can open and adjust your D70 files. Alternatively you could use a free converter like Rawshooter Essentials to process your D70 NEF file into a TIF or JPG to open with PS7. Hope this helps. -- John Bean |

Working with RAW
Photoshop CS also opens raw files.

Actually CS would do it and there was an ACR plugin available for CS that worked with D70 files. Instead of "Open As" just use "File|Open" Or if you have CS2 just use Adobe Bridge. |

Out of interest, if the OP was to use the Adobe DNG converter to convert his raw files to DNG (doh!) - what's the earliest version of PS that supports DNG? |
