I may not even dispute what the guy is saying, but someone who has only owned mirrorless for 2 years is a novice, in my opinion. Come back when you've used them for 5-10 years. Some of us were into it long before foot-draggers Nikon and Canon got in.

He is also claiming that lenses for mirrorless cameras are
smaller, which often is not the case.
In any case, clearly the mirror is a thing of the past.

no.

And lenses are larger today if they are in
the top ranks, where they haven't yet figured out
how to do more with fewer and smaller elements.

no.

As things stand, you can't achieve the level of correction that people demand
to-day with fewer, smaller elements.

yes you can. modern lenses blows away what existed in the past.

there are new glass formulations, much better lens coatings,
significantly higher precision manufacturing and most importantly,
massive compute power to design better lenses and also put some of the
corrections in the camera.

The laws of physics keep getting in the
way.

they're not in the way at all. they're helping.

And they all use more elements.

not all.

some do, but so what? number of elements is not an indicator of lens
quality.

some lenses use fewer elements due to newer glass formulations, the
ability to precisely manufacture aspherical elements, which in the past
were far more costly to produce and correcting certain aberrations in
the camera, something that was previously impossible.
