Not too surprised .. IIRC, DJI was on the DoD banned list back in 2017.
IIRC, the security concern was that they were "phoning home" detailed terrain
mapping data - and supposedly at a level of detail that the drone itself doesn't
even need in order to fly.

If true, instead of having to spend several $B in high end spy satellites, just sell
a commercial product where its customers will pay you for the privilege of doing
the work of mil-grade data collection for you.

The DOD wasn't worried about "detailed terrain mapping data" they were
worried about operational data from (mainly) the GPS/GLONASS receivers.
Such data could obviously compromise field operations.

The US' topo data is openly available in high resolution already. Don't
need no stinkin drones.
