Default My new 17-35mm AF-S lens...

....is like my dirty little secret!

I picked it up this morning and it is a whopper compared to the 18-70mm
DX. How the hell do I keep this a secret from my wife for the next few
weeks?

First impressions of it are that it is very well made. It completely
dwarfs the D70 though! On the F4s the lens feels awesome. Nice heft,
super-quick auto-focus, AMAZINGLY wide coverage at 17mm! It looks
different to other ultra wide angles I have used in the past though. Items
in the foreground don't seem to loom into view as much as I remember them
doing with the last UWA zoom I had (Tokina 19-35mm).

Well, here's to good shooting in the future (and holidays missed!). BTW,
the final price I paid was less than half the local retail price of a new
one, and exactly double what I paid for the 18-70mm DX that came with the
D70.

Oh, and I will never have stuff sent via DHL ever again. The seller sent
it door-to-door to me overnight with a COD Waybill and DHL insisted I had
to come into their offices and collect it there. Ridiculous. All other
carriers I have used COD come and collect their cheques.

Buy a box of crackerjack. Carefully steam it open and put the lens inside.
Then glue it closed again, and smuggle it into the supermarket the next time
you go there with your wife. "Buy" it there, and bring it home with the rest
of the groceries......Let your wife find it when she opens the box......

If it looks like the other lens she wont even notice
somehow women are blind to photo equipment.
They will not even notice the difference between say a F3 and an F90x
or a host of Black lens the all the same.....all the same colour

I don't know about that....I think my wife knows about as much about my
photo equipment as I know about her sewing equipment....I think it's just
what interests you that counts.......

Don't show up at my house! :-). I recently added a 45mm f2.8 AI-P lens and
with filter and hood it doesn't look that much different than the 50mm
f1.8 AIS when mounted on my F100. The first time I used it last week on a
joint outing my wife smiled at me and said "I'm glad you didn't get the
silver one". The next words were how are you going to pay for it. It was
then I handed her the cash equivalent from the sale of other items. One of
which was sold just after the arrival of the new lens but fortunately the
cash was in hand before the credit card bill arrived.

LOL!

I've used the same tactics myself in the past. My poor wife thinks that
Fender guitars cost about $100!
