going to Thailand, is it better to buy Canon 70-200mm IS f/2.8 lens here or there?
Going to Thailand for 5 weeks starting Dec. 12. I have 100-400mm IS
Canon lens, but found it's f/4.5-5.6 wery limiting for the type of photography I do on my trips (I usualy don't have time for tripod). I am ready to pay 1600$ for 70-200 f/2.8 IS lens at bhphotovideo.com (and sell my 100-400 on ebay), unless you guys assure me to make a purchase in Thailand. I've been reading conflicting reports about Thailand prices on photo gear, some saying it's substantialy cheaper, others that it's same as US outlets plus the risk of being ripped of. I can't think of how could they rip you of for the hi-end lens since I know how much it's worth (and I doubt that cheap replicas exist). Could someone please give me an educated advise? Sincerely, Ram |

I doubt anyone would assure you of making a purchase in Thailand ;-) IMHO, the only place that can compete with US on prices might be Singapore. Cheers, Siddhartha |
