Default Filters

Hello,

I have a bit of a strange requirement for a project that I am working
on.

Are there filters which are capable of converting one color of light
into another? e.g. a filter which will convert all blue light incident
on it into yellow light? I would imagine some sort of Fluorescence like
phenomenon could be the basis of such an object.

Along the same lines are there filters which will convert color light
incident on them into a shade of white light as in a RGB to Grayscale
conversion?

Any help with either of these questions will be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Sameer

No. The only way is to accelerate the source to near light speed, as in
the Doppler effect. That will shift the wavelengths toward red.

I'm not sure what you are asking.

At pro photo stores selling lighting and 'expendibles' like gaffers tape,
you can buy filter gels that will cover light sources and convert them. You
can cover a window so the outside light will have a similar color temp as
the incandescents, you can wrap florescent tubes with corrective gels, you
can put gels over your strobes.

filtering doesn't change the color of the light, it just sucks up the
opposite color. A yellow filter will suck up blue light so what passes
through has a larger volume of yellow

photogs used to look through a blue filter to view an object to see how it
is likely to render in gray scale.
