Nikon D5000 Recalled
http://www.nikonusa.com/Service-And-...-Advisory.page
Tens of thousands of D5000 cameras are affected. According to Nikon guru Thom Hogan, Nikon still has not officially notified dealers of this problem or of the recall. Consequently some affected cameras are likely to still be on store shelves. http://www.bythom.com/ Most customers will not know that there is a "service advisory" for the D5000 until their camera suddenly quits working. If you have a gray market camera, of course, you may be out of luck. Be careful when typing the serial number in the provided link. Nikon does not check if the serial number is valid and if you miss it by even one digit you will get a message saying that your camera is not one of the affected ones, giving you a false sense of security. Those cameras that are returned to Nikon are "inspected." The part is not necessarily repaired or replaced, meaning that it could still be defective and will not be replaced until the camera actually fails, possibly while you are on vacation or taking pictures at the family reunion. Nikon really should be able to do better than this. -- Waddling Eagle World Famous Flight Instructor |

Nikon D90 - made in Thailand. No problems. Autofocus problems. Nikon D5000 - made in...China? Fact? Or bigotry? -- Ray Fischer |

Just because your serial number is within the range doesn't mean your camera is affected. There is little point in returning a camera that doesn't show the problem. Most dealers won't return or exchange based on a serial number on a list unless it was a recall http://www.nikonusa.com/Service-And-...-Advisory.page Canada: https://www.nikon.ca/en/SerialCheck.aspx Europe: http://advisory.nikonrepair.eu/language_select.aspx |
