Default Alkaline batteries

Have you ever installed a new set of batteries and find your device, camera,
flashlight, CD player... whatever it may be stops working early? Next you
test the batteries with a meter and find one has died early and the others
are practically new.

I've had this problem with cheap bargain batteries and, many years ago
Energizers. I haven't used them since. I wonder what brands of Alkaline
batteries are least prone to this problem, yet are still a good buy. Reason
for asking is I want to buy in bulk (100).

I have rechargeables, but these are not ideal in some situations.

Thanks
-S
