Can you follow a flying bird without the image in the viewfinder
blacking out between shots?

Just curious.

With the X-T2 and 2.0 firmware, shooting with CH (8-11 fps) the
blackout is imperceptible at 0.005 sec with the very fast EVF refresh
rate. There isn't much to choose between the EVF and an OVF. There are
several AF-C tracking options which can be tuned for circumstances.

The X-E2 (FW 4.0) is not as fast as the X-T2 when it comes to EVF
blackout. That said, at 0.05 sec with 7 fps for AF-C HC, there might be
a flicker of blackout, but for the most part it is not noticable. So to
answer your question, with the X-T2, tracking a flying bird, or other
target, EVF blackout is a non-issue. With the X-E2 there is a slightly
perceptible flicker, and the blackout is of no consequence.
