Default epson 2200 help

I don't have any problems like this; however, I always uncheck the high
speed box on about anything except straight text. It is possible, with some
papers, that the amount of ink being put down doesn't dry fast enough
especially with high speed running.

Shoot'em up, print with anything, Agfa, Fuji, Kodak and all the rest will
love you for it!!

Found the setting you are talking about plus I slowed the ink time and it
fixed the problem, which brings me to the next two items, type of paper and
profiles. any suggestions on them.
thanks
Gary

type of paper and
profiles. any suggestions on them.

Epson makes six papers for the 2200 and all are very good. I especially like
Premium Luster, Premium Semi-Gloss and Watercolor - Radiant White but you might
like one of the other three better. You said in an email you use HP paper,
that's your problem, the printer drivers don't put down the right amount of ink
for it because the driver has no profile for it, so the ink doesn't dry before
it hits the rollers and you get the smear.

Just print out a test image on each of the six papers (you need to change the
photo black to matte black for the art and matte papers, and vice versa for the
glossy papers) and see what looks best to you. You probably got 2 or 3 of them
for free with the printer.

For profiles, use the ones provided by Epson with the printer, these are fairly
accurate ICM profiles for each paper. Easiest way to access them is to open
the printer driver interface, set 'quality' to 'photo' or 'best photo' and
select the paper type, then click 'advanced' and in the Color Management box
click ICM and leave it at 'Applied by Printer Software' (this last step appears
on XP but not on 2000 and possibly other OS's). That's it. (There's a more
flexible way to do it in Photoshop but this should get you started).

You asked about using AdobeRGB as the profile ... AdobeRGB is an abstract
working space, not a device-specific profile. It's a good choice for files
destined for the inkjet printers, but don't use it as a profile.

I like Epson's Archival Matte papers. I don't like the way the 2200's inks
look on any of the photo glossy papers. They look fine, as long as you don't
study'em too close and only look at them head on (it's a pigment ink v/s dye
based ink problem); however, I much prefer their premium luster photo or
semi-gloss papers - just can't get used to the effect w/glossy stuff. I have
seen where some have had success with photo glossy paper from another
manufacturer, but don't have that name off-hand. Another paper that is
really nice is the Epson Velvet Fine Art paper. It is large, 13"x19", and
expensive, right at $5 a sheet and you have to feed it through the straight
through manual feed port.

Profiles? Ugh. You may be one of the fortunate ones and are able to live
with the supplied printer profiles. I couldn't, but as Bill recommends, try
these and see what you get. If you have trouble getting prints that look
like what you see on your monitor, you are probably going to need some sort
of profiling software like the Monaco system. Did you not wonder why Epson
had one of Monaco's flyers packaged with the printer? Until I had calibrated
everything with Monaco, I was not a happy camper - $700 printer and having
to pump out more major $$ to get the thing set up correctly.

Happy printing

The problem is that you're using the 2200 with HP paper, just about
the worst choice for Epsons because of the low absorbency. To begin
with at least, get a small supply of Epson papers like Enhanced Matte
and Premium Lustre to try your printer out. These papers have a
microcoating that dries the ink immediately, and you won't have any
problems with rollers getting inked up.

Pably so.........You just spent upwards of $700+ for this printer. Some
papers, good, other than Epson will work fine with it; however, would advise
against the popular inclination to nickle and dime your investment; i.e.,
refill inks of questionable compatibility and trying to use the least
expensive papers................not sure what drives that desire, but my
'inclination' is to use Epson products with their gear - anyting goes
haywire, I'm not wondering where the fault lies

Shoot'em up, print with anything, Agfa, Fuji, Kodak and all the rest will
