Default B&H gouging

B&H has upped the price of a Nikon 18-200mm VR to $749.95. Adorama is also
gouging, but for $30 less.

What's "gouging"?

They have it.

You want it.

Take it or leave it.

Are they forcing you to buy?

By your definition, if I charged you $7.95 for a widget, and my
competitor charged $7.90, I would be gouging you for a nickel!
Go out and buy everything you buy on the internet for the lowest price
you can find. Keep doing that for a while, since you don't want to be
"gouged" by paying more than the lowest price. Forget that, in order to
do business honestly, those vendors who are honest have higher
expenses. Surprise! It costs them money to take your return if you're
unsatisfied with your order! So the vendors you buy from, who don't
"gouge" you and charge the lowest prices, almost invariably are
difficult, if not impossible, to get to do an exchange, much less do a
full refund. It costs them money! And that cost is not taken into
account in their bargain prices. They will also, usually, try to upsell
you when you call to change or even check on your order. I read these
horror stories in this an other NG's all the time. Inevitably, when I
go look at the company's rating on resellerratings.com, they're very
poor. Some bozo buys from wescrewourcustomers.com at the lowest rate on
the net, then screams bloody murder when he gets a "reconditioned"
product with no instruction manual, and they won't take it back! I'll
be looking forward to future posts from you of this nature. Best of
luck!

Try 17th Street Photo (www.17photo.com). No guarantee that they'll be
cheaper, but I've always found them to be a very reliable and efficient
outfit.

I can only see it as gouging if you are somehow forced to buy there and
it is commonly available for less.

I suspect you are not going to find it for much less from an equally
safe and reliable source.

You should definitely try an outfit that doesn't gouge, like
priceritephoto.com.

Enjoy,

I thought that the term "gouging" referred only to relatively essential
items like food and fuel.

Yes! Buy your expensive photo gear from a place where you have a less
than 50% chance of being a satisfied customer. They won't gouge you on
price, they'll just screw you if you need to return it! Good thinking!
