D70 settings
From: "Gordon Powell" Subject: Optimizing Images (D70) Date: 13 August 2006 12:10 The D70 gives you the option of 'optimizing' in the following ways: -Normal -Vivid -Sharp -Soft -Etc. -Etc. The lovely D70 manual describes each mode but I have a difficult time discerning any significant difference. Short of making prints of each and comparing closely, "Is there any REAL difference between them?" I want the sharpest print possible. Any recommendations on what mode to select? What mode do most D70 users use? Gordon Hi. If you want real quality then use RAW. You can apply whatever degree of saturation, contrast etc, you choose after you have downloaded to the Computer. RAW ignores all of those camera settings. Even if you do not want to go down this road, do not apply sharpening in Camera, save any sharpening until the very last thing just before printing. An over sharpened image can not be unsharpened. Roy G |

Roy G I would think that pretty much all D-SLR's would give best results using "normal" settings and sharpen using PhotoShop or similar, shoot in RAW of course and don't over sharpen, may look good on the screen but you may get a poor result if printing. D70 settings
I am fairly new to digital using a D70s, virtually the same camera as yours,
the only thing I have altered from factory settings is to turn off the auto ISO setting. I am monitoring results in photoshop to see if any patterns develop that might merit changing anything. However I do change white balance from time to time when conditions demand - always remember to reset afterwards. No doubt you will get much more technical replies from other users, but the foregoing works for me. Geoff. "Pete D" wrote in message ... "Roy G" wrote in message ... If shooting RAW the white balance does not matter.
