Default issue making B&H credit card purchases

I tried to make a purchase at B&H and at the end when
it goes to complete the transaction it comes to a
"verified by Visa" screen which if you haven't registered,
forces you to register with verified by visa in order
to complete the transaction. You must enter personal
information and register and get a password
in order to complete the transaction. But if you read the
policies you are agreeing to, it absolves your bank
of ALL responsibilities. Has anyone else seen this
and is there a way around it?

I tried again with a mastercard and the mastercard equivalent
at least has a do not activate option and allows you to
complete the transaction.

Purchased camera for wife 2 weeks ago at B&H with Visa. I did not have this
problem.

Not all banks have signed up to the scheme in the UK, although one of
my credit card providers has. There is (in the UK at least) a similar
MasterCard scheme.

Bank of America is doing this.

You are supposed to go to Bank of America first and setup your purchasing
security account, or whatever they call it. Then when you go to BH, they
will prompt you for the info. It's not BH, it's BoA protecting you.

BoA is not protecting you. You are already protected by the law. BoA
is protecting themselves, not you.

I've always been able to bypass that Verified by Visa thing but I
haven't been using a BoA card. If you can't bypass it online, then
try phoning or faxing your order in.

I just bought from B&H tonight with a VISA and when they went to the
"Verified by Visa"page it was a simple choice ..fill it out and hit
"Activate Now" or don't fill in anything and just hit "Don't Activate".
It's the Verified by Visa service that you don't have to use if you
don't want to and simple to bypass.Just hit "Don't".

ps great deal on Lexar compact flash cards ..4 gb 133x on sale for $154
with a $110 rebate =4 gb for $44!!!!

Dave,
I just went to B&H and tried buying the lexar card with
2 different visa cards. Neither attempt gave an option
for do not activate. I then tried a mastercard. That
had the do not activate option, which I selected and
it went through fine. Are you sure you saw a "do not activate"
button with a visa card? If so, what browser were you
using (I'm using mozilla).

Thanks for the tip on the lexar card. I really needed
one more; I only have 10 of those 133x cards ;-).

Roger
