I'd like to see a photojournalist in a war zone using a Powershot. That's funny. ;-) They've got the market totally wrong with this press release. You're pretty out of touch aren't you. Many of Sony's titanium-shell P&S cameras were used during Desert Storm missions by photojournalists Not as a primary camera. -- by the military too. Of course because if you are military and fighting you want a small camera... photography is not the prime objective. Agreed on both points ... we can only hope that better noise performance and less shutter lag will drive more of the new designs. A bold move on Canon's part, BTW, as most consumers are still hung up on the MP race. Perhaps, but those customers were never really the target market for the G series, which has always been more of an enthusiast's camera. |

If this camera bombs, then the MP race will continue unabated. |

After all, the demands of war photojournalism are not great; you could probably take salable pictures with a cell phone. technolgy wise they aren;t great but you need a more hardy camera. A flimsy plastic body, and a lens that gets stuck wouldn;t be good, as in war you can;t just get an easy refund or camera swap. Anyone know what camera war photographers use..... I guess it;'s differtn now because they do have more backup than they did during WWI & II Your images will likely never be displayed anywhere except as tiny web frames and small lo-rez images in newspapers and magazines. But I do think they'd want something to show for their trouible other than a small image. Go after the SLR users who want a smaller camera to carry with them instead of their SLR when on holiday, etc. I have never known a corporate to be so out of touch. Haven't dealt with Nikon much, have you? I am convinced that all of us Nikon users are born masochists. But are they born that way or is it a career choice or fetish ;-) |

Especially considering what that Canon P&S is going to cost. The G series never appealed to users looking for the lowest cost. The Micro 4/3 cameras announces so far are not as good as the G11 appears to be, and are far more expensive when you factor in the lens cost. Micro 4/3 is for people looking for a small, interchangeable lens camers, that don't understand the advantages of a D-SLR. The G11 is for D-SLR owners that want something smaller on occasion, and are willing to pay more for a good P&S. If you can confine yourself to 200 ISO or lower, it'll work. |

This was a while back now, but I remember hearing many different stories about this photo. A lot of it has been deleted now. I think he was maybe a Reuters photographer from memory. For me, I must admit I wondered whether the sun reflected off the front elements of the lenses, which made the tank commander think they were scopes and targeted them? Who knows? |
