Laz,

Do search for Review sites of Nikon lenses. If you get the D70, get the kit
18-70 lens, it gets good reviews. Feel like splashing out? Get a Nikon 17-35
and also a 80-200/2.8 lens.

You can find capsule reviews and experience with Nikon F-mount lenses on the
D70 he
www.non-aol.com/D70/
I have used the 24-120 VR on the D70 for about 3,000 images with good
results, including professional portraiture.

I recommend http://dpreview.com and looking at the Nikon D70 forum, as well
as the SLR Lens Talk forum.

Ask about specific models. Nikon has made very good to excellent lens in
all series and at all price points.

My favorites:

24mm f2.8 AF (all versions have good reputations)
85mm f1.8 AF
105mm f2.5 AI-S (one of the best lenses ever)
105mm f2.8 Macro AF (no sharper than above at normal distances)
180mm f2.8 AF (all versions have good reputations)
300mm f4 AF (better than the AI-S equivalents)

Resist the temptation to waste money on inexpensive, long range zoom
lenses. I just bought myself a D70, and 50mm prime lens. I am stunned at
the quality of the images I have been taking.
