Then what is that page showing me? Where are the check boxes

it's showing you what's on the device.

Except I can't see them on the device. :-(

go to an apple store and have them figure it out. bring your laptop.

What laptop?

your laptop.

you could lug your desktop if you prefer (they have displays, you can
skip that part), but it's much easier to take a laptop.

Anyway, I've now solved the PDF problem with Goodreader.

ok.

That's probably not a physical move. A collection is probably only a

one of the many benefits of moving beyond the file system.

It's on top of the file system.

so what? top bottom who cares. it makes no difference.

the point is that it moves beyond the limitations of the file system.

Let's not start this again.

ok.

My next door neighbor doesn't have a laptop.

why wouldn't you have a laptop??

Perhaps, just perhaps, he doesn't need one.

I don't have a laptop. A number of people in my camera club don't
have laptops. We had to call around to find someone to bring one to a
meeting recently.

I used to have one, but I found it to be less than useful. For me. I
don't do things away from home that require a computer.

My laptop, a 17" MBP, has been used less and less these days. I don't
need that much portable computing power any more. So much less that I
haven't actually used it since a Yosemite NP road trip almost 3 years
ago. Now when I am away from home my iPad meets all I need in a more
convenient package. If anything rather than upgrade/replace my current
MBP, I will probably get an iPad Pro.

I don't need one. I don't want one. I've got enough problems already.

SO what's so specail about the graphics card capability considering that the VR guys aren't supporting macs because of the lower grapic card support that mac have ?

Are you sure you need this spec anyway for just photos.

If you look at the way even just Adobe's minimum requirements have
been advancing over the years and you extrapolate 4~6 years into the
future .

Which is something I would never do, 3 years max is how you should be thinking.

On the basis of past discussions in this news group, that would appar
to about right for Apple owners, while PC have a slower turnover. At
six years mine is older than most front line PC's but not by much.

you will see that you need a graphics card which is fairly
whizz-bang by today's standards.

Which you will pay a fortune for and 6months down the line a better one will apoear for less money.

That's always the case. Fortunately I am unlikely to want one of the
really expensive graphic cards.

I either need to buy such a card now
or have the ability to upgrade it in the forseeable future.

In which case iPads & surface pros aren't what you need and niether is a labtop.

I'm glad you agree with me.

You're in the same postitions as gamers except they don;t expect technology to stand still just because they have the lastest graphics card, than know that in 1-2 years they may well have to upgrade.

I won't have the competitive pressure to upgrade that gamers are
under.

Expecting any system to last more than 3 years is pushing it a little.

It's worked for me.

pure nonsense!

macs have a *much* longer useful working life than windows systems,
which is one of many reasons why macs hold value on the used market,
much more than a similar vintage windows box.

put another way: pcs *need* to be replaced much sooner than macs do.

you will see that you need a graphics card which is fairly

then whatever graphics card you'd get will work for longer the 4-6
years service life you claim to want.
