Default camera that can do remote capture with computer

I'm planning on using a digital camera as a document scanner, since
it's much faster than a regular scanner. I need a digital camera that
can do remote capture with a computer via USB. Can someone provide a
list of point and shoot digital cameras (or camera series) that have
this feature? I don't need the latest models, I'm willing to buy a
used one too. I know that some Canons have this feature, but I'm not
sure which ones. Thanks!

You are referring to "tethering". See:
http://www.systeminsight.co.uk/Digit...g_Overview.htm
for some information.

Many cameras can be tethered to the computers. Nikon's "Capture"
program allows their dslrs as well as some of the Coolpix P&S's to be
tethered. Canon also has a program.

Search Google using "tethered camera" and you will find a number of
references for cameras and programs.

I'm not all that familiar with the subject, but I think you will find
that it is the software, not the camera, that will be what you will
have to start with. Just about any digital camera has USB output, but
you have to be able to match the camera to the appropriate software to
tether.

I think you'll find that some programs will allow the images from a
tethered camera to be automatically captured by the computer, but you
will have to fire the camera and then see the image on the computer.
Other software will allow you to preview the image on the computer
screen and capture by computer without touching the camera's release.

Hello, Tony:

My very first digital camera [a low-end Largan "Lmini 350" (350,000
pixels)], purchased way back in December of 2000, allowed such a
function.

Curiously, none of my later and better cameras [including a Pentax
K100D (DSLR)], are so capable, in this respect!

Cordially,
John Turco
