As it is spelt out in the FR article there are solid lines between the X-Trans and Bayer offerings. There are reasons for that differentiation. The GFX with its almost MF sensor would be cost prohibitive to market, even to the Pro, or up-market enthusiasts with an oversized X-Trans sensor. Add to that some of the X-Trans RAF processing issues (mainly sharpening artifacts) when using an LR/PS workflow, which regardless of opinions of Adobe business practice, is the de facto Pro/enthusiast choice for processing/editing software. None of those folks are going to tolerate a hiccough with their LR/PS workflow. At the other end there are the A series Bayer sensor cameras which are aimed at the entry level market. There they save ±$100 in sensor cost, also making things a little simpler for those entry level users selecting processing/editing software. With the X-Trans cameras the X-Trans I are fully discontinued, and with the X-Trans II the current survivor is the X-E2S. That leaves the X-Trans III, X-Pro2, X-T2, X-T20, X100F, and X-E3, and those are not going anywhere just yet. You can anticipate updates via firmware, and hardware. Perhaps, there will be an X-Trans IV in the future, but I suspect we will see a more powerful CPU and other hardware changes, such as an expansion of touch, and tilt screens first, and a few new lenses. Just remember android likes to provoke knee-jerk responses. -- Regards, Savageduck |
