Default D40 takes 18-70mm?

Will the new Nikon D40 accept the Nikkor D 18-70mm AF-S kit lens?

Are there any functional limitations?

I heard there was some problem with fitting this lens to the D50.

Thank you,

John Morris

absolutely.

none whatsoever.

the only limitation with the d40 is that non-afs lenses will need to be
focused manually. the 18-70 is afs, so there is no problem at all.

i don't know where you heard that. the 18-70 works on all nikon
digital slrs, including the d40 and d50.

i have a D50, and the 18-70 lens works just fine with it.

As the others have mentioned, there are no issues with that combo. The
D40 will work with any AF-S or compatible third-party lense.

No issues...probably someone trying to push another brand or
suggesting that the normal 18-55 "kit" lense is the usual model on the
D50. The 18-70 will work fine on all of the Nikon digital bodies.
