Cleaning damaged 35mm slides?
"Bob St John" wrote in message ... Folks, We had a house fire, and most of my 35mm slides were damaged by water, dirt, etc. What is the best way to clean the slides? While cleaning should I remove the film from the slide holders (some paper, some plastic)? My goal is to clean them up, then scan and digitize them. Thanks . . . Bob St. John This is not a trivial issue. I would talk with a good conservator before doing anything. Try the Library of Congress and the Getty Museum as starters. They may be some useful information at: http://palimpsest.stanford.edu/ the Conservation On Line site. Beware that exposure to water can damage the gelatin and make it very delicate. If its damaged washing can remove it from the support. There are other problems as well. This post was cross-posted, I am confining my response to rec.photo.darkroom. -- --- Richard Knoppow Los Angeles, CA, USA |
