Neither does a democracy. The United States is not a democracy and
was never intended to be, despite the rhetoric of the politicians and
the brainwashing we were given in the schools.

The United States is a liberal democracy. Now go back to school and learn
what those terms mean.

SO a "liberal democracy" permits torture and abduction? Illegally
invades countries and kills civilians and flouts international law?

Yes, Chris, it does, but only in the relative dark ages of fifty years
ago, before TV, internet, camera phones, digital photography. Back then
you'd actually have to read newspapers which may or may not have
reported on same.

Your chauvinism is showing again - unless you hold equal contempt for
English transgressions.... Do you?

A _democracy_ does anything that the majority of the people want it to. To
the extent that that is not the case, it is not a democracy. If the
majority vote in favor of torturing and abducting minorities, "illegally"
invading countries, killing civilians, and flouting international law, then
that's what happens. See why democracy sucks as a form of government?

So the documented tourture by the US in Gitmo, Afganestan and Iraq was
over 50 years ago?

I do not watch TV or read the newspapers.. I know people working in Iraq
and Afghanistan both freelance and regular. Last night I sopped with
friends in Sandhurst.... that's where I find things out. BTW one of
them has been over to Bragg training your lot.

I leave it to you to get your information from the press.

The "liberal" in liberal democracy has nothing to do with specific policies
or the political stripe of the government of the day. I've explained twice
what it does mean.
