If you look at the first video, they make a point of the single engine performance which appears to be quite impressive. -- Regards, Savageduck |

A magnificent contraption and I've just told a friend about it. Knowing him, there is a good chance he will want to buy it. It's single engined performance is much better than I thought but I still would not like to have an engine fail just after lift off on a short take off run. There is one shot which shows how much it yaws. Pick up a bit of speed and it seems fine. -- Regards, Eric Stevens |

Pick up a bit of speed and it seems fine. http://www.aircam.com One of the problems of single engined flight is the thrust of the surviving engine (plus the drag of the dead engine) causes the plane to yaw. This can be controlled if there is sufficient rudder effect. I noticed that in the video I missed at first, they do talk about rudder size in relation to engine failure. Nevertheless the video showed that their low-speed single-engine take off had a noticeable yaw away from the working engine. OK, it was controllable but it could give you a nasty surprise if it happened just after you had lifted off on a short take off run. There is always a 'gotcha!'. -- Regards, Eric Stevens |

OK, it was controllable but it could give you a nasty surprise if it happened just after you had lifted off on a short take off run. There is always a 'gotcha!'. The important thing is they don't recommend single engine take off, they just demonstrate it as a capability within it performance envelope. When the demonstrate going to single engine in flight the stick adjustment is obvious, and then the pilot talks of adding power to the running engine to stabilize. As they said, the two important things contributing to its decent single engine performance is the close to center line placement of both engines and the large vertical stabilizer. The other issue is it would be foolish for any pilot to get off the ground without having some idea of emergency procedures. The next thing to look at is the 30 knot stall speed along with the short take off and landing rolls. Anyway, with the basic kit configuration you would be looking at $54K. Upgrade the engines & props and you are looking at $70K-$90K. Add in $10K for factory assembly to primer finish and you could be in the $65K-$100K range depending on configuration. -- Regards, Savageduck |
