That pbase is a commercial business is irrelevant. If posting a link to a photo that is hosted on a commercial web server is classified as a "commercial advertisement", then there will be no chance for anyone to ever post anything, because pretty much all webservers, even if they have a free option, also have a subscription option. Again, if mere mention of an organisation that makes money is your criteria of a "commercial advertisement" then we shouldn't discuss Canon, Nikon, Pentax, etc in the newsgroup either, because they are all commercial businesses. So in your narrow-minded fantasy world of what rpe35 should be, we can't post a photo that is hosted on a website that gets money for it's hosting, nor can we talk about any major brand of camera because that would also be advertising. That will stifle the discussion somewhat eh? I guess if someone was to come on here and say they were a professional photographer and post links to their website, claim that they had all these print businesses etc, then that would be commercial advertising too eh? Especially if said person later claimed that the discussion he had generated in here was responsible for lifting his google rankings. So before you get all upset about the shootin, perhaps you should look in the mirror D-Mac, er I mean "Crikey Mate". BTW, what number sockpuppet is this - 175, 176? |

If that is true, then if you were use the word "Mama" then you are promoting a commercial enterprise (the Police haven't closed her down yet have they?) I have been on usenet since its conception, and I have yet to see anyone who actually takes notice of any totally unrealistic and completely unenforceable newsgroup charters. No one gives a ****! You don't, you breach them all the time. Ok, you can put your hand back in your panties now. Forgot where you were? No problem. 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, Squirty! Sockie |

Quite right. I'm actually giggling right now. Really. I'm having to type this twice I'm giggling so much. There are a few really good photo posting pages, Pbase is one (not my favourite by any stretch). For that it has done the SI good. Assuming that Crikey is Douggie, then he's a bit of a hypocrite (no surprise) as his own photos have been part of the SI for a couple years or so including a recent submission. -- -- r.p.e.35mm user resource: http://www.aliasimages.com/rpe35mmur.htm -- r.p.d.slr-systems: http://www.aliasimages.com/rpdslrsysur.htm -- [SI] gallery & rulz: http://www.pbase.com/shootin -- e-meil: Remove FreeLunch. -- usenet posts from gmail.com and googlemail.com are filtered out. |

I don't know where he stood or now stands on "the issue"; but it was a hot one in this NG back in the day. I'd be just as happy seeing it announced in all NGs, with followup and principal discussion in r.p.d.. There the mission posters will object also, but won't have any grounds except being irritable and irritating. -- john mcwilliams |
