I recently saw a photo album size 8x10 in which all the pictures were
printed directly unto the page, in selected locations,
on both sides, in black and white with descriptions on the bottom of
each. Anyone know about this . I believe it had something to do with
Kodak

Just Google for "Photobook" and select a service near you. Usually you must
download free software from the website of the service offering these. Also
check the photo desk at your local drug store, they also might offer this
service.

There are a whole bunch of companies that do this. I had a book made
recently, and used a company called Blurb (www.blurb.com) -- I'm
extremely pleased with the results. Kodak's service is at
www.kodakgallery.com. Other companies I investigated a

Shutterfly (www.shutterfly.com)
Viovio (www.viovio.com)
Club Photo (www.clubphoto.com)
Sony ImageStation (www.imagestation.com/photo-gifts)
MyPublisher (www.mypublisher.com)
Lulu (www.lulu.com)
Qoop (www.qoop.com)

Prices, features, and level of customization vary from place to place.
These all do colour photos; if you want black-and-white, you'll
probably have to convert the pictures yourself. I used Blurb because
they allowed me to heavily customize the book (including adding large
blocks of text), and I liked their pricing scheme. MyPublisher was
similar -- both services give you a lot of control over the book, but
of course this requires more effort. Some of the other services are as
straightforward as "Upload all the pictures and we'll make you a book."

As far as I know, these are all US-based companies - if shipping
internationally, you may want to look at how different shipping options
will affect duty and other import taxes.

Good luck!

I have personally used Shutterfly to produce 2 photo books and was very
satisfied with the results and price.

I, too, prefer Shutterfly. It has a greater variety of photo layouts
and book sizes than the others I investigated. I've been well please
with my 3 books -- admittedly all color. I found their customer
service to be quite helpful and responsive as well.
