Default What's best outfit for starting out?

However, large format may simply be too much to handle in these
backcountry situations. I have been fooling around with a kiev, just
ot learn about medium format, and may end up sticking with medium
format, since the learning curve for that wouldn't be quite so steep.
Possibly, I may go for a used 645. We'll see. Certainly, the
discussion I've prompted here has been enlightening.

While I think large format is the best possible format, given
your criteria I would use something like the Mamiya 7 or the Pentax
