yes they are

No they aren't the person does thatr's why there are so many **** movies
in portait format when they should be in landscape.

people are stupid.

Well some are worse than others.

Always been the case, even for cameras which have both an optical
viewfinder as well as an LCD for conducting image composition.

And that doesn;t matter how many nits the screen does it;'s the nit using it.

it does in sunlight.

but I can tilt my screen on my camera I've yet to see a smartphone that can do that.

An interesting & insightful point.

Nearly 20 years ago when we picked up a Canon A80, I didn't realize the utility
of its "vari-angle LCD", but came to understand & appreciate it later on: made
things like "worm view" easy, along with composing while using improvised
hardpoints (wall, railing, etc).

videos are either landscape or portrait.

with *very* rare exception, those who create portrait videos are stupid
for doing so.

it does in sunlight.

tilting the display isn't the issue.

Um, and rather vitally to frame and compose it before hitting the shutter.

But no effect on the quality just the framing which is accounted for by taste or artistic decisions.

I guess, if you don't consider taste or artistic decisions to be aspects
of 'quality'.
