Oh, I think 100MP or so would be nice in a 24x36 camera. That works out to 300 cycles/mm, presumably enough to make the lens an effective antialiasing filter. You would downsample to 20MP or so digitally, since there would be little or no information beyond that resolution. Perhaps this could be done by special-purpose hardware before storing the image. Such a camera could be essentially immune to moire and effects from the color filter array. -- -Stephen H.
