"Jim" wrote in message . 6...
Need advice on what capture device to use for transferring from camcorder to PC Just need somthing simple not looking to go crazy with video making Thank Jim Buy the new Sigma video camera with the Foveon X75v sensor. It should be their in the stores next month. Not only will this camera give you better quality video than any 3 chip camera made but it also will record in exremely low light better than any other camera. It will come with a full editing software suite developed by Borden Software and all the cables and hardware, and even a new Foveon video card for your choice of PC/Mac/Linux. |

Mr. Prediguez almost comes across as a shill for this Foveon phenomenon. He seems to be pasting this propaganda into random threads without apparent regard if they even fit. I can't see that Mr. Prediguez' response has *anything* to do with Jim's question. Surely buying a whole new camcorder for a simple capture would qualify as "going crazy". |

Richard- There's a long and now tedious history to this, as you'll see with a bit more reading. It's pretty much about trolls who have no imagination or the wit to actually say anything engaging. As contrasted with the Troll who is witty, urbane, and is able to upset a single NG by insinuating himself into threads. The 'orginal' GP was able to do that for a while- er, not that he was particularly urbane, and only sometimes witty. By putting [OT] in the subject line I hope that those who want to filter out the garbage will have done so, and a little light shed. -- John McWilliams |

Hurry up and open up one of his replies, then hit "block sender" so you don't even see his crap, it's quite easy to carry on oblivious then! |

Transfer from camcorder to PC
Jim Never did get an answer that I can see. Actually I am really
interested in his question because I have been thinking of doing that also. I have a lot of tapes that I would like to see on my computer. I hope we get some suggestions. Transfer from camcorder to PC
It depends on what kind of camera you have.
For miniDV and/or Digital8 cameras, all that is needed is a 1394/Firewire card. Note: these cameras can NOT transfer full-quality video using USB. If you're trying to capture analog video, you'll need an analog capture card. However, an easy solution is to buy a miniDV camera -- almost all of them have the ability digitze analog video and audio input, i.e. plug your tape deck into the camera, connect the camera to the computer with the 1394/Firewire card, and capture away. You'll need capture software. Most good editing packages have internal capture capability. Adobe Premiere is the standard for PC-based prosumer editing. Vegas is also a popular package. Pinnacle Studio works well for some people (and is 1/6th the price of the other packages), but is, evidently, quite finicky about the hardware on which it is run. Preddy's "Borden Software" is a complete unknown -- I've never heard of it, and it's certainly not discussed on any of the rec.video newsgroups, or the more prominent video websites.
