.. or you could look at the Nikon Coolpix 8700 or one of the other 8MP
zoom caeras...

I'm browsing the 3MP category. Above that, everything costs way too much for
me.

I wouldn't buy any of those cameras if I were you. Be aware that all
of them use outdated, dinosaur sensor technology. They record images
in monochrome instead of color

so how come the pictures are in color?
please do tell me.

Sigma use the newly discovered coloured binaryy digits. Up to now binary
digits could only record black and white ( zero or one). The new ones used
in the Foveon can store an infinite number of colours in each binary digit,
and they are guaranteed to be fade-free, vibration proof, always in focus,
use zero power, and can even be re-cycled through the flashgun when you
delete unwanted frames :-)

I AM joking, but I am sure these will soon be quoted extensively on this and
other photo newsgroups.

Let's not. If you are going to troll, try now to blend into an ongoing
discussion or war with a "contribution" that's vaguely similar to a
point of view, appears that you have some knowledge of the subject
matter, and not cross posted to all the groups above.

Are you up to snuff, "Mat"??

Yes, "he" probably means to carry on a wee little flame war. Perhaps we
can let it die here and now? Please.

Monochrome means single color, not necessarily black or white. Each pixel
in most digital cameras sense only one color, Red, Green or Blue. In the
case of the Sigmas, they stack 3 monochrome silicon sensors (RGB) over each
image sensor, with the idea, and forlorn hope, that this will lead to
accurate color reproduction. So far, that hope goes unrequited...
