THE 40D HEATS UP!

Temperatures rose above the 100°F mark today in the Scenic City so you know what that means. Dragonflies! I figure if you're gonna be hot you might as well go down to the local swamp and get really hot! Here's a few shots from today's lunch hour: http://www.pbase.com/bret/image/100540259/original http://www.pbase.com/bret/image/100540260 http://www.pbase.com/bret/image/100540261 http://www.pbase.com/bret/image/100540262 http://www.pbase.com/bret/image/100540263 And with the sun so high in the sky, it is a perfect time to click off an infrared shot. http://www.pbase.com/image/100540264 Who Rules lunch hours? It's the Awesome 40D, of course! Interesting pictures of interesting insects. About 30 years ago I saw one of the heavy-bodied type in a territorial with one of the darning needle type(just like your blue). The larger one caught the slender one right behind its head. It fell about two feet into the water and was just a very small crumpled mass by the time it hit. I wish I could have gotten my Canon FTBn going in time to catch the action. I did get one territorial fight picture at about the same time. Two green lizards, variously called axolotls, anoles and (incorrectly) chameleons fighting to the death on a palmetto leaf. The winner had the loser by the neck, with blood streaming down. I'm sorry to say that I was never able to get a good scan of it. Allen |
