Mamiya RB67 & Cokin/other filters
Greetings all,
I am looking for some graduated neutral density filters. Everything I have read is that the screw-on type are less desireable for the graduated filters because you don't have the control over where the graduated portion is situated in your composition. The question I was wondering is whether the Cokin P family of filters is large enough with the 77mm filter requirement. I thought I saw something that showed that the Cokin filters are 74mm across. Not sure if that is correct. Is Cokin the way to go, or is there a better value (price/benefit) offering out there? Are 4x4 filters better? If so, who? Thanks, Tom |

Thanks, Tom Yes they are large enough for many lenses ( except 50mm ). I have got the Cokin P series for my RZ and can use it nicely with all lenses down to 65mm. The 50mm lens gets a tiny amount of vignetting if you use the Cokin adapter but if necessary, you could use it with that little sacrifice as well. I cut off the second outer filter holder section of the P adapter and this one I can also use with the 50mm lens. All my P filters are 99mm x 83mm in dimension - Hope that helps a bit rgds George |

I used hitech filters in a cokin p holder on my RB67 for a little
while, I only have a 90mm and a 180mm so it was OK. No decent hoods exist for the cokin P and I had flare problems with the hitech filters so I ditched the lot on ebay and went for Lee. Lee is a better alternative for the since the filters are larger and you get a decent hood, the hood has 2 filter slots so you just need that, the adapter ring and the filters. Still it set me back a fair bit. There are possibly better alternatives to hitech in the US but avoid cokin filters like the plauge. |
