Default Interesting Results From The Learning Curve

I was experimenting with the electronic shutter on my camera to see if
having a silent shutter release would make things less disturbing for
taking shots of hummingbirds up close. I got some good captures, but
Iforgot about the rolling shutter effect when using high speeds on
moving subjects such as helicopter blades. So one of my images got this
weird wing-tip effect.

Hi,

That is reminiscent of the squashed automobile wheels' effect when shot
with a focal plane shutter years ago.

Good one! Definitely in the WTF category.

The other thing I've found with the electronic shutter in my Oly is it
doesn't handle flash at all. But it doesn't warn about it: it just
doesn't work if the flash is on!
Quite frustrating until I got used to it...

With a little work in post it is still a usable image, but most
importantly, lesson learned.

They have a $2000 flash now that can sync at 1/8000th of a second and
flash at 1/63,000 second. That might freeze the birds.

I

am not about to drop $2000 on a flash whe I can buy a new X-T2 for
$1600. For now I will just crank the shutter speed up on my camera if I
have to. I have up to 1/32000 available.

RichA should be taken seriously for once. That hairdryer would
blow the wings of your little hummers! Problem gone, sort
of...
