Akshally, the J series could have done it for Nikon if they hadn't been
idiots...

But anyways: this might finally convince them the drop in dslr sales is
not due to "market conditions" or ISIL or whatever!...

I don't think that the decline in ILC camera sales is limited to SLRs.

So while introducing a MILC may reduce the decline as that segment has
been growing market share relative to SLRs, it's not a cure-all for the
problems facing them.
July 2016 shipments as % of 2015:
DSLR - 69.8%
MILC etc - 71.9%
The market conditions are affecting all makers - the camera boom is over.

Higher-level cameras should never have been aimed at flightly buyers like soccer moms. We need to go back to the mid-1980's where only dedicated shooters bought interchangeable lens cameras.

There's so much stereotyping in that, the only comment I make to you is
"get a life".
