Canon A710 IS
I am considering purchasing the Canon A710 IS. It has what they call a
"digital teleconverter" feature that, if you shoot at lower than the max resolution of 7.1mp, allows you to zoom in past the optical limit of 6x without any image degradation. Which would be better.. Keep the camera at the highest resolution setting and use my computer software to zoom in later on, or keep the camera at a lower resolution setting and take advantage of this feature? Thanks, Dan |

In principle, the camera might be able to do a better job since it's got the raw ccd data to work with, while the computer has to start with a jpeg. In practice, if you want a long telephoto enough to care about this, get an S3IS or a DSLR with something even more serious. |
