More Power, Scotty !!
Am I the only one with battery problems ? I've got a KODAK 7330 camera ( which takes superb pics ) half-a-dozen different brand nimh batterys, and three different chargers ! My memory card estimates "400+ pics" But, I doubt that I've gotten as many as 40 pictures on a set of batterys. This power thing is taking over my photo experience. While on vacation, I left my camera in the car overnight. Temps dropped into the lo 50's... In the morning... dead batterys. I charge my batterys before taking the camera anywhere... I carry a spare set of fully charged batterys. I may have to start taking my charger on sight-seeing trips. It's getting so I'm more concerned with battery life than with taking pictures. I long for the days when I could take my ( film ) camera off the shelf after a year... and take pictures !! ???? rj |

This is the single biggest drain on battery power, so using it to take photos instead of the viewfinder and frequent reviewing of pictures will drastically reduce battery life. Second - I find that rechargable batteries tend to have a longer life than non-rechargeables in digital cameras. However, you should buy the highest power ones you can (I use 2500's). Anything below 2000 is inadequate for prolonged shooting. If the problem persists, then I think your camera may have a problem. You'll never get the same power performance from a digital camera as a film one, but it shouldn't spoil your enjoyment - as it clearly is now. Good luck. |

RJ wrote in rec.photo.digital: Am I the only one with battery problems ? No ... I face this issue with a HP-Photosmart 935. Great little camera, if it wasn`t for those battery problems. It sometimes only takes 20 pictures until it starts complaining. I long for the days when I could take my ( film ) camera off the shelf after a year... and take pictures !! Haven`t done this with my EOS-300D yet, but it never shows any trouble with the battery, when it has been on the shelf for a couple of months. But I expect good batteries with a camera, that was at 1000 euros once. Talk to you later ... HAns from Germany -- 2006/06/03 15:50 EDDS 031550Z 34007KT CAVOK 16/06 Q1025 NOSIG |

Have you tried fully discharging the batteries a couple of times, try using a torch or similar to run the batteries right down before recharging. |

Perhaps if you removed the batteries when the camera isn't in use they would last longer, it might be that they are being drained by some function even when the camera is turned off. Anyhow ALWAYS carry spares. Eric |

( makes hot batterys ) A (nimh) battery assortment from Kodak, Duracell, Energizer, and WalMart Capacities ranging from 2100 2500 mah I've considered lithium batterys If they deliver worry-free reliability, it may be worth the extra $$$ I seem to be spending more time fussing with power requirements than I do taking pictures. HELL... I could've bought a Science Fair kit at RadioShack to do that. rj |

Generally, the Kodak battery pack (NIMH) gives me 100-250 pictures on a similar Kodak (DX6440) camera. The disposable lithium cells, about 300. If you should get much less that that from a set, you should probably consider getting the camera checked out. |
