Default Canon 100-400 IS L lens

I have some large dust (or ??) inside the lens. Can this lens be taken
apart and cleaned or is this a shop repair only? If I have to send it to a
shop, where is the best one that can deal with Canon lens cleaning that is
near the far northern end of CA or Southern OR.

Thanks
Barry

I wouldn't try it myself ...

I'd send it to the official Canon Customer Service facility in Irvine,
CA ... dealt with them three times in the past few years and they
always did a good job with quick turn-around. The one time I tried a
local repair shop they ended up sending it to Irvine anyway and then
charging me extra ...

Although it is counterintuitive, dust in the lens doesn't degrade the
image as much as you might think. Do you notice image troubles?

Bill...

Thanks for the input. The lens will be going to Irvine...and I'll hope for
a quick turn around on it.

Regards
Barry

Dave...

I know that dust in the lens is not usually something that shows up on the
image...as does dust on the sensor. However, one piece of dust is actually
a "flake" of something (from inside the camera or whatever) and it seems to
be producing a bit of "flare" at times. That's the only issue (aside from
me being able to see the dust and knowing it's there g).

I've pretty much decided to send it to the Canon shop in Irvine, which is at
the other end of the State from me...but is the closest. I found a couple
of good repair shops in New York that have a great reputation and say they
have a faster turn around time on repairs...but I'm also shipping the lens
from one coastline to the other. I suppose I'll opt for Irvine.

Regards
Barry
