The Fujifilm sale is in effect, so I have taken advantage of a $100 discount,
and bought the XF16mm f/1.4 WR.

For folks who might be interested, there are some good lens, camera body, and
camera+lens combo deals available at vendors such as B&H, Adorama, and Amazon
(third party vendors).

Gongrats to your new lense. 16mm is a nice and modest WA that will give
you joy for a long time... Probably your life time considering your age!
;-PPP Unless you get feed up with the quirks of the X-Trans sensors...

It's a quite expensive lens - lowest price here in Germany is 829 Euro.
Are you planning to use it for landscapes, architecture etc.?

I am planning to use it for all you have mentioned, as well as some closer
wide work, and wherever else it might fit in. It is a lens I have been
considering for some time as everthing I have read about it, has nothing but
praise. From what I have seen in results from Fujifilm shooters using it,
performance is outstanding. The only con has been the price, so having the
opportunity of a $100 was one I intended to take from the moment these sales
were announced.

I was also considering the XF10-24mm f/4 at the same price, but that is an
older lens without weather sealing, and I have much of that range filled with
primes such as the XF14mm f/2.8, the XF23mm f/2.0, and now the XF16mm f/1.4.

Currently my most used lens is the XF23mm f/2.0.

Now I will have to wait and see how the announce XF8-16mm f/2.8 performs when
released in 2018.

That is my intention.

BTW: I will be taking another trip to South Africa, this time in February. So
I will be away with friends for my birthday.

Is it rectilinear?

I still have the Sigma 8-16 which I used with a Sony APS-C camera. Cool
lens, most of the time I used it at the wide end.

Unfortunately all FujiFilm has announced, is that the XF8-16mm is on their
roadmap for release sometime in 2018. There are no details of the lens
structure.
