The list price - that is LIST not the RETAIL price in the USA is between
$213.00 and $266.00. Hardly high end today when compared to the price of
other European tripods. Retail will be the price your dealer sells it
for.

I paid $94 for mine brand new. If the 'pod were in the house at the moment,
I'd post the model number. It holds plenty of weight. Like I said, it was a
good buy.

I do not measure "high end" or quality by price, and you should not either.
Nuff said.

You also got a steal. Pro tripods from Germany have not sold in that
price range for 30 years.

You got a close out from someone.

It was from Bromwell Marketing around 1996. He was another most helpful
distributor and if things pick up, I still hope to get a Silvestri.

I'll be offering a RIES J 100 and RIES PhotoPlane head very soon on Ebay
unless someone here jumps at it! Older, of course, but the best of what
I've
used for LF and ULF camera support and a fine example!! I was going to
open
bids at $450!

Placing this back On Topic, Joseph - can you tell us more about the tripod?
A candid, down-to-earth evaluation? How heavy is it? How well does the head
really work? Is it klunky to set up and break down? Do you strap it closed
to carry?

Finally, and I realize this is not a fair requisite for a tripod, but how
well does it tolerate rough handling, bad weather and being set in mud and
water?

Still looking for the ultimate tripod.
See this: http://fineartphotosupply.com/Tech%20QL%20Tripod.htm

Looks like a Berlbach:
http://www.berlebach.de/e_index.php
I don't have one. The comments I have heard are mixed.

Not all Berlebachs are the same, of course. I got mine when they were
considered extraordinarily good buys and many people blew them off. Now

that
they are priced on the moon, they seem to have a better rep.

For the money you can get a very nice new/used Reis:
http://www.riestripod.com/

I am considering Reis - as the last resort. Just got to know it's really
that good first.
