Has the Canon E18 problem really been solved?

Via a Google Groups search I found a brief message from Chuck
dated 2004-09-27 to rec.photo.digital replying
to a query asking whether the PowerShot A95 suffers from Canon's
notorious E18 fault. His message stated that the fault had been:

fixed a long time ago.

If you look with googlegroup for Canon a85 e18. You will find only 5
threads
, and 3 of them (cant read the 2 others :P ) are asking the same
question as
you.

After looking through the messages that can be reached following the
above link that Chuck had provided (and also through a large number of
other messages on the topic, many of them quite recent, found via
Google), without finding anything explicit about the problem having
been properly fixed, or explaining why it could not apply to the A95,
I wrote to Chuck asking him to expand on his comment: "fixed a long
time ago".

Unfortunately I merely received an error message
... Host unknown" in response.

Can anyone else substantiate Chuck's claim - or provide any other
reassurrance about the reliability of the A95, a camera which would be
top of my wish list were it not for worries about this alleged E18
problem.
