Irfanview EXIF time from iPhone photos?
Using (excellent) Irfanview I'm looking at photos I've taken with my
iPhone 6S+ recently. In the EXIF Info window I see the 'Date TimeOriginal' and 'Date TimeDigitized' are identical as usual and show the correct local time. For example they show 2016:04:03 13:10:34 for a photo taken at about 13:10 today. That's 13:10 GMT. Yet the GPSTimeStamp shows 11 10 33.99, 11:10:34 My iPhone is showing the correct time of day. GPS uses GMT (UTC), so I don't understand the one hour difference? I suspect it may be an iPhone/iOS issue (and I'm posting in the iPhone forum) but I'd appreciate feedback please from others with GPS data in their photos (iPhone or otherwise). -- Terry, East Grinstead, UK |

GPS uses GMT (UTC), so I don't understand the one hour difference? Isn't the UK currently at BST(UTC+1) Summer time, not GMT? For GPS, GMT(UTC) is a constant and all EXIF Geotags will show a GMT GPS capture time, and the phone (or camera) will correct for daylight savings time shifts, sometimes automatically as in the iPhone. With my other cameras, I have to either live with a constant GMT(UTC), or with local time with Daylight savings time adjustments. I suspect it may be an iPhone/iOS issue (and I'm posting in the iPhone forum) but I'd appreciate feedback please from others with GPS data in their photos (iPhone or otherwise). So, shots taken with my Nikon DSLR and GPS-01 will have a GPS UTC timestamp, and a local capture time. For example out here in California a shot taken at 06:30:43 PDT will also have a GPS UTC timestamp of 13:30:43, which reflects (UTC-7). -- Regards, Savageduck |
