I'm only about 1/3 of the way finished with it as it has to be
stitched manually.
Stay tuned.

Have you tried Autostitch Panorama? I aotomatically stitched about 26
photos of a mountain scene and was very surprised at the outcome.
About the only setting you really need to change is the size (I think
it defaults to 10%).

It is an absolutely amazing program. It does a much better job than my
PSE3 program, which cost $52 when it first came out. I only wish I
could justify buying the commercial version of the software. It will
even read through your photo library and FIND pictures that can be made
into panos! Fantastic!

I haven't tried it, but I doubt it would be much success on a Linear
Pano taken from over 50 different locations.

You really ought to give it a try, you have nothing to lose except the
download and testing time - it's amazing freeware.

I also liked (past tense) Autostitch (the free version), until I started
throwing large and complex images at it. Maybe there have been
improvements (are you talking about the paid-for version?)..? but I
found it incredibly frustrating when it would labour away for quite some
time and then crash. I tried all the suggestions at the website and
from forums, but to no avail - and it was inconsistent, so obviously the
complexity/type of images caused issues, not just the size.

I also found it (the free one at least) annoying in that you basically
have no control, so if you disagree with the way it has stitched, too bad.

I moved over to PTgui and haven't looked back. A bit more work, but it
seems to be able to do everything, and I can control the process in
great detail...

There's an unfinished (yes, I'm, lazy) sample here (non-linear!) already
posted here several times:

I'm still trying to find a good candidate for a linear. I'd like to get
permission from Cityrail to wander along a particular stretch of the
railway tracks, where there is a *very* long graffiti mural...

I have had better success sometimes by doing stitches in sections rather
than all at once.

How is it compared to Arcsoft Panorama Maker 4, do you know?

I'm using that because it comes free with Nikons, and it's worked very well
for me (relatively modest use), but I'm always willing to try something else
if it's better.
