Buying and processing E6 film in Switzerland?
I might be going to live in Switzerland soon (Basel). I will be taking
a lot of photos when I am there - all of them E6 film, and I don't want to pay stupid Swiss prices. What's the most economical way to do this? Thanks, Roland |

In Basel you are only a short walk from Germany and France if you want to deliver by hand (only a slight exaggeration). Alternatively you might find that UK processors are cheaper than US. Here are some examples, not recommendations: www.transpacolor.com/ www.lab35.com www.photographicprocessingbirmingham.com www.the-darkroom.co.uk www.bpdphotech.com (no website - Just E6 Ltd) |

Buying and processing E6 film in Switzerland?
I tried electronic discount shop in Basel which had (for 35mm) same prices
as in Germany and France. I thought that might be the case, but it worth the suggestion. I know that France is more expensive than the UK for processing. The problem with this probably will be the customs at the post office, Switzerland is not EU (yet). I'm not sure that could ever happen in practice. Isn't neutrality enshrined in the constitution? Anyway, back to photogrpahy. When packages are coming into the UK from outside the EU no duty is chargeable if the value is below a certain amount GBP17 (or something around there). Since the value of a single developed film is only that of an undeveloped film of the same type the value is low. Is there a similar threshold for imports to Switzerland? My own conclusion is that E6 or any other film is getting more expensive every day. Therefore I have started my film cameras and will move to digital. Film and processing is much cheaper in real terms than when I first got a 35mm camera in 1981 (at least in the UK). The fact that it may be rising slightly at the moment is insignificant. |

You are right, I suppose this is the case. I think people in living Switzerland even can under certain conditions, get the VAT difference returned when they bring things from the EU which has higher VAT rates. Information in German, French and Italian: http://www.ezv.admin.ch/zollinfo_pri...x.html?lang=de My own conclusion is that E6 or any other film is getting more expensive every day.
