Default Nikkor 24-120mm 3.5-5.6 VR

Two questions for the group:

1. Does the current version of this lens change length when focusing?
2. Is there any way to distinguish "early" editions (reputed to have QC
problems) from the most current?

Thanks,
~Ray

No, and, no - unless you know the serial numbers...

Thanks. I took one around the block from Penn Camera here in Washington,
DC, and thought enough of it that I bought it. I'll be doing mountain
calendar shots next week, maybe I'll be able to post a link to the images
when I get back.

Good question. Because I am not willing to carry a tripod on part of this
trek and I expect high winds.
