Default Delkin pop-up LCD shade for DSLR's

I'm sorry to post on-topic, but here goes. ;-)

I bought the Delkin pop-up shade for my Maxxum 7D.

Pros:
..well made, but of lower quality than the camera, so a feeling of
hanging something 'cheap' on the camera.
..very light,
..snaps on (using the viewfinder clip) easilly and removes easily.
..closes easily, something like a Hassy viewfinder

Cons:

..a bit clumsy to open (too stiff)
..doesn't open quite far enough upward (another couple mm would be nice)
..doesn't fit as snugly as it could at the bottom.
..viewfinder is a bit deep, can't see entire scene and you have to move
your eye position to see all the data to the side and below the image.
Even if you move the "eyecup" portion of the Delkin device, it's still a
bit hard to see everything.
..a bit pricey (CAD$47.50 in photo store here).

I haven't had a chance to use it in sunlight yet as the weather has been
on the bad side of miserable for as couple weeks now with no sign of
improvement.

"Everybody talks about the weather but nobody does anything about it."

Cheers,
Alan

We'll let it slide this time, but don't make a habit of it.

I bought the Delkin pop-up shade for my Maxxum 7D.

Looked for one, but they don't seem to make one for the Pentax *ist-D.

Will the *ist-DS pop up shade fit? Is it the same body as the -D?

(They have the -DS v. at B&H).

Alan

Alan,

You might want to look into a Hoodman LCD shade...I bought one for my D70
and the construction is comparable to the camera and makes it much more
usable outdoors.

Hi George,

I've bought the Delkin and it is surely serviceable. I posted the
above, warts and all for anyone considering it.

Please post the pros and cons of what you bought. Don't say there are
no cons. There are always cons.

Cheers,
Alan

I'll check, but I don't think so. It's a slightly different body; the
-DS is shorter on the left side (as you look thru the viewfinder) than
the -D.

Well, I bought the original one for the D70...a smarter buy today (and I
think the only option) is the new(er) shade that fits both the D70 and the
D70S. I think the finish is a good match for the D70 and appears to be of
similar quality plastic (polycarbonate?). I've never had it pop off when
opening or closing but I imagine it could if you handle it roughly. Like
any other hood I've seen, it'd get in the way if you wanted to use the
viewfinder while it is open (not something I want to do, so no problem).
The only thing I could criticize is that it opens to something like 85
degrees per side, 95 would be nicer. Overall, I think it is an excellent
product and would buy it again.

George

PS--Sorry for the delay in responding. I've had some "funny" results
posting of late with posts being stuck in my outbox due to something opening
too many Internet connections...somehow I think it is Mailwasher related.
Anyway, I hadn't seen this one post.

I got the one for istDS and have it on a istD and it works fine. It
does seem to be a bit of center on the LCD but it is functional.
