Default DIY lens shade support; alternatives?

Hi,

I was wondering what kind of constructions people use to attach a lens
shade to the camera or the tripod. I've got a wooden tachihara. I
bought a toyo shade for it, knowing it couldn't be installed just like
that, but I got the shade really cheap. I've got this rod system to
attach the shade, but it's rather clumsy especially if you need to
make a lot of adjustments to the camera. Most importantly the bottom
clamp tends to come off when adjusted. I'll improve it from what it
is, but I was just wondering if there would be any tips from people
who may've built a support before. I know there're shades that are
attached to the objective, but I'd rather not consider purchasing one
and besides the front standard isn't too rigid by any means so any
weight off it is an improvement.
here's a link to how the shade's held in place now

A flexible, steel 'snake' with a clip on one end to hold a card and another
clip to the camera. Simple, cheap, and effective.

I made a couple from black cardboard, held together with black darkroom
tape. I use Artist's tape to hold them in place if friction doesn't
suffice. Artist's tape comes off easily and leaves no residue.

Cheers

We also called it Draftsman's tape. Good stuff, and an excellent suggestion.
Thank you for that, Leonard.
